As the days go by, I am compiling the art that has been photographed well enough to put in the book of art that I have created since 1997 or so.   So many good ones, bad ones, and fun ones…not all of which are going to be included.  Dialogue about the who, why, what, and the state of mind during which is duly noted where appropriate.  We are never in the same mind space twice, even if we had a time machine in my opinion.

Enjoy the moments of life, readers, as we never know when it’s our time to journey on.

Below are the pieces that are drawn from the dragonfly specimens I brought from Maine.  So many midges and mosquitos there, and thank goodness for the enormous dragonfly.

The dragonflies are close to my heart and soul, as we saw so many huge ones in Maine…and here are some specimens I brought back with me to my studio.  That is part of my process…along with research, imagination, reference materials, and flair…and careful consideration to how it turns out on the canvas.  Here are some reference shots that I thought to include here…and the finished products along with them.

I think of them as having relied on us, as humans, for a cleaner earth..

Thank you for coming to the Artwalk in Ballard at the upscale, hip, and awesome Beehive Mercantile shop!!  The art will be up for a month. So if you didn’t get there last night, please drop in and check it out!  Below is the blue suede shoe…

The ‘show’ includes two shoes, two ladies showing confidence and nurturing, dragonflies, Fremont Solstice Parade Participants, social commentary, and sunflowers.

Here is my process for the sunflowers:  My husband bought me a bunch of beautiful large sunflowers I used in my studio for reference…and of course I used imagination and careful selection…and free flowing lines of freedom.  Background first, after a preliminary sketch of composition.  Then layers of background to get the right blues with some movement in the ‘air’.  After the background was complete, I moved onto the stalks, full with hairs…like us…and then the petals of the sunflower…stylized with free flowing lines and relaxed petals.

Here’s a snapshot of it before it was done:

You can see the finished painting in the window of The Beehive Mercantile in Ballard.

SAVE the date:  Friday, March 25th, 5-8pm.  Fully masked…fundraising event for AAUW scholarship recipient…should be really a great time !

Well…holy moly…an entire year has passed…finally created some new art…for the AAUW Art for STEM fundraiser in March…and for the April artist of the month at Bee Mercantile.   Looking forward to both.

Gardening With Colour….an adult coloring book, volume 1 in an open ended series at this point in time.  Our Northwest garden, with blooms, leaves, statuary, arbors, insects, and imagination was the catalyst.  Such beauty in nature…with the rustling of leaves overhead, vivid colors opaque in the shade, and some near to translucent in the sun, really spark an appreciation.

Here is the link to the amazon page for the coloring book….or you can buy it from me directly…hope you enjoy it…let me know, send me an email so I can read what you have to say!

PET PORTRAITS

With a loving family of animals myself – nonhuman and human alike – I hope to give others a material representation of a loved one. Companion portraits showing the inner spirit of the subjects allow a remembrance of the dear loved one as well as an emotional connection through a range of mediums. Whether in life or death a companion portrait provides a concrete image of the personality of the subject as well as the love they will always receive through a special familial bond.

July, 2014…discussing the bees with an expert in Woodinville proved highly educational.  Go to this web address:  http://crownbees.com/get-involved# .  Crown Bees is raising awareness for the importance of the Mason Bee.
