About the Process

Well, here we are in 2024.  A new direction.  A new chapter.

I love to find something beautiful and interesting in everything I see. You probably do too…where a falling leaf appears to be choreographed before your very eyes…or the water spray from a car’s wheel going past is like a mini light show….so many fascinating things to see if you take the time to look.

Through creative expression in many mediums I can produce a variety of different designs.   Soft pastels, oils, ink, graphite, conte, oil pastels, acrylics, linocut prints, small sculptures, etc…the diversity of methods I like to use alleviates any artistic block I might find myself heading into.  Always keeping fresh ideas ready, while my studio is bursting at the seams with projects.

One of my projects is creating portraits of people’s pets. Cats and dogs especially, for it is these loving creatures that we bring into our families.  Their lives are much shorter than ours, and yet the years that they spend ever faithful to us are years of true companionship.  It is through my portraits that I hope people and their families can fondly remember their pets for many years to come.

I love art and design. All that it stands for, all that it takes to make, and the fact that it is an expression for what one believes to be their truth.

I enjoy my imagination and try to incorporate it in my work…with color, style, and thought.

Let your inner soul take over, for healing, advising, informing, and best of all….playing.

So…let’s talk about process.  Here are some pictures that show my process for a piece that recently sold, titled ‘Street Musician Playing the Fremont Troll’.  In fabric oil paint…  I set up the form in my studio with my husband’s shirt, hat and gloves, and then filled the form with stuff that would puff it out…put the guitar in place, moving the form, as it kept falling over..pretty funny actually, and then I would support it to keep it like it was a person playing the guitar.   …when I was in Seattle, I snapped some shots of the architectural elements that I thought were lovely. ..and added those as the background.  The guitar is filled with the Fremont Troll, from what I decided it looked like to me…

Here are the images:

As you can see the actual piece on the side to the left.  The lamp in the upper area has since disintegrated from the heat of the bulb…and in the foreground you can see the paint I used after the preliminary drawing..

I like a lot of my drawings better than the actual finished piece sometimes, and in this case, it applies.

So above, I used coins to try and get my message across…United State of America…divided- below the sail boats..and the other coins of public market and bridge…

This above is the finished drawing before I painted…and I really like this and plan on doing another one more detailed with the background.  I like the off center approach, and try to design in a relaxed fashion, where things are offset, asymmetrical, but with a message that I have in my mind…in Seattle there are so many musicians on the corners…some are great playing their instruments, and some are not, but it is nice that they are there.  I think that with my work, I combine elements to create a new piece, rather than doing it exactly as I see it…in most cases, that is…unless it is a commission.

Declaration:  All of the artistic creations and designs on this site, and any other made by me in my studio is of my original creation, to the best of my knowledge.
